Fact of the Week

Fact of the Week: Who Was the First Female Actor? Margaret Hughes may have been the first professional actress in England. The occasion of her first performance was on 8 December 1660, in a production of Shakespeare's play Othello, when she played the role of Desdemona in a production by Thomas Killigrew's new King's Company at their Vere Street theatre. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Margaret_Hughes

Welcome, Lady! (February 1st 2020)

We weren't sure if we wanted to get another dog right after losing Dusty. Then, at Christmas, the boys asked if we could adopt a dog for Christmas; they were clearly ready. Terry and I spoke a few weeks later and decided we wouldn't actively look for a dog, but we would put out our vibe to the Universe and figured that Fate would pair us. Turns out we didn't have to wait long (one week, to be exact)... meet Lady!
She is a Seven year old Pek-hua mix. She is so tiny!
Terry's sister Kasey had recently moved to Duchesne and there was a hawk and some cougars that had left their "calling card" professing interest in Lady being Breakfast, or a Late Night Snack.  She asked if we would take her.
I was a little hesitant at first. I had all of these stipulations that it needed to be a "trial" period. She needed to make sure she liked us and we needed to make sure we liked her.

Yeah, no need. I can't believe how fast she has made our house her home, how fast we have become her humans, and how fast I came to fall absolutely in love with her!

The Universe knows what you need....you just need to listen.....

We Lost Miss Dusty

Poor Dusty got a mast cell tumor. We had seen that she was biting at her leg, but at first we thought it was a rash. Then it started to swell, so we thought she had been bitten by a spider.
When I got the diagnosis, at first, I didn't realize it was fatal. Poor thing. If we had gotten in sooner, they may have been able to cut it out, but that would have meant taking her entire leg. Chemo was not an answer either because it would have maybe bought her a couple of months and it would have made her pretty sick.

I took some pictures of her last days......

We tried to keep her comfortable, but she ended up waking up at 2am October 27th whining pretty badly. We had to take her to Blue Pearl Animal Hospital where they sent her on her way.
I always felt bad that I left Muffin in her final moments and I swore that I would never do that again. I was a LOT more calm than I thought I would be...eerily so.  Terry and the boys had a really hard time.

(These last pictures were not of the actual process. These were taken while waiting to be seen by the vet)  It was very fast and she passed serenely. I can't believe how fast 14 years went by.
Here are some the sympathies we received

Alex and Eden had one of their talented friends (Kenzie Rodriguez) draw this for me (all of us). It was from the photo below that Keesha Brentel took at one of our camp trips at Diamond Fork. It has always been one of my favorites. Alex thought that daisies are on of my favorite flowers, so he had her draw them in the background.

Farewell over the Rainbow Bridge my Sweety....til we meet again!
